Urban Mercy

Our mission is to curate a space of belonging and to cultivate redemptive relationships which allow everyone to breathe deeply the healing, reconciling, and creative spirit of Christ.

Urban Mercy began in 1982 as Saint James Urban Church when a small group of young Christians believed that faith & mission in the way of Jesus needed to extend beyond people who look and act just like them. They began gathering in Capitol Hill Denver creating community specifically among the mentally ill and those living on the streets. SJU was a gritty, hippy, authentic parish who stuck to the conviction that everyone was held within the big merciful embrace of Christ.

That movement of mercy continues on today at Urban Mercy as we continue to create space at 1402 Pearl St. for redemptive relationships to develop. We find that life flourishes and flows from the intersection of action and contemplation.

Urban Mercy is a Christ-centered ecumenical contemplative community of ragamuffin weirdos.

  • Sundays @ 10am

  • 1402 Pearl Street, Denver, Colorado 80203

  • Parking in back, come up the stairs.

We come from a variety of places. Come enjoy the differences!

We actively welcome folks from all walks of life into contemplative practices, poetry, along with humble teaching from the biblical text. We believe friendship is God’s constant invitation and that relationship is the avenue toward personal and communal wholeness and healing.
